D.A.R.E. Program

Throughout the school year, two specially trained Amherst Police Patrol officers enter the community’s elementary schools and conduct a 9 week course designed to prepare young people to better resist the formidable peer pressures which may otherwise lead them to experiment with drugs and alcohol. Called “D.A.R.E.”, (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), it gives 5th graders the necessary preparation to stay away from drugs, as well as the concept that the police officer is their friend and a positive role model. Students are presented with certificates of appreciation at a graduation ceremony upon completion of the program.

Questions regarding the program or to bring the D.A.R.E. program to your school, contact Officer Cathy Onions at 716.689.1387 or by email.
