Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Public Review and Comment

Public Notice for Review and Comment

  • The Amherst Police Department plans to spend the $16,186 allotment in U.S Department of Justice 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Grant funds upgrade our communications system through the purchase digital mobile radios for the patrol fleet, as part of the Deparmtnet's P25 compliant radio system upgrade.
  • P25 compliant Patrol Car Mobile Radios
  • APD is facing several expensive technology issues in an era of budgetary cost cutting.
  • One of them is an obsolescent radio system-- Currently, the department is transitioning from an analog 7-site VHF (154 MHz) analog radio system to a digital system. The basic system has been in operation since the 1970s, with several upgrades over the years. The new system in its final form will be an APCO P25 compliant 424 MHz digital system. Over the next several years, the department is transitioning gradually from its current legacy system to new digital radios. We propose to purchase mobile radios to outfit Patrol Division vehicles, expending $16,186 for the mobile radios and in-car equipment.

Please contact Captain Thomas Maier at 716.689.1308 with any comments regarding this grant.
