Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Newsletter

The Amherst Youth Department, located in the Harlem Road Community Center, is seeking volunteers to assist in after school child care programs.  Students, retired seniors and others willing to participate are needed to help with homework, crafts, games, and general supervision of children ages 5-11. Volunteers for the After School Child Care Program must meet the NYS Office of Children and Family Services eligibility requirements. Special event volunteers are needed to help plan events such as the Amherst Dusk to Dawn Relay Challenge, as well as perform tasks during these events.

For further information on general volunteer opportunities, contact Antonella Covelli, Director of Volunteers at 631.7201.

The Amherst Youth Board is also seeking high school students as well as adults who are interested in volunteering on its Board.  The Amherst Youth Board is a policy-making board comprised of 23 citizen volunteers, both youth and adults.  Members are appointed by the Amherst Town Board for three-year terms, and participate in decisions affecting programming, policies, funding and public relations for youth programs and services. Shorter terms for youth are also available.

To learn more, please call Mark Johnston, Acting Director of the Amherst Youth Board or Mary-Diana Pouli, Senior Youth Program Coordinator at 631.7215.
