2017 Assessment Equity Project

In anticipation of the upcoming Town of Amherst Assessment Equity Project, a new website has been developed. This new website was developed with the cooperation of the Town of Amherst Office of the Assessor and Systems Development Group (SDG).
The new website provides the following information and functionality:

  • A new comparable properties tool to assist with the Informal Assessment Challenge Process
  • General information, illustrated tax rates, and a workshop outline
  • Property Sales and Assessments information
  • Formal Board of Assessment Review applications
  • Informal Assessment Review applications (the time period for informal reviews has passed)

Assessment Equity Project Brochure

The Town of Amherst is conducting an Assessment Equity Project in 2017, please check back frequently for more information on this project.

  • Dates of public education events, forms to use for challenging your asessment, additional local information such as sales trends, real estate market, etc can be found on http://townofamherst.sdgnys.com/search.aspx.
  • Scheduling an Informal Assessment Review appointment can be done by calling 1-866-910-1776.

Board of Assessment Review (BAR)

We have completed the informal Assessment Review process of the project. All property owners that have submitted an Informal review will be notified in writing no later than May 10th, 2017 with the results from that review

If you are still not satisfied with the result, or did not file an Informal Assessment review, your next remedy is to file a Grievance with the Board of Assessment review. The Board of Assessment Review will meet on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.  The hours will be 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. to examine all grievances and complaints. Location of hearings will be announced by May 8th, 2017.

Complaints with respect to assessment may be filed starting May 8th, 2017 with the Assessor or be given physically to the Board of Assessment Review on  Tuesday, May 23, 2017 , but no later than  8:30 PM. 

While appointments are not required to appear before the Board, they are highly advised. To schedule an appointment for a hearing with the Board of Assessment Review on May 23, 2017, please call 631-7106 between May 8, 2017 and May 23, 2017.  If you desire a review, but do not want to appear (Non-hearing), this also must be dropped off to the Assessors office, or to the Board of Assessment review by 8:30 PM, May 23rd, 2017

The form RP-524 MUST be filled out  prior to your appointment and can be mailed in prior, brought to the Board meeting or dropped off if you only desire a  Non- Hearing. We have also included other forms for your use based on the type of property being challenged. We encourage their use when you submit your information. Please note that all items submitted become property of Town of Amherst Assessors office.
