Snyder Action Plan
At the request of an
informal group of businesses known as the Friends of Snyder, the Amherst
Town Board contracted with the Parsons Team to undertake a study of the
historic business enclave centered at the intersection of Harlem Road
and Main Street. Although Snyder's residential neighborhoods continue to
offer a desirable address, the business district has suffered as the
ongoing consolidation in retailing makes the lives of small businesses
increasingly tenuous.

The Snyder Action Plan
is intended to identify a number of key areas where stakeholders can
focus their attention to obtain maximum results over the short term, i.e., the next five
years. The actions recommended in it are intended to:
1. Reinforce
existing community networks and institutional and business linkages
2. Improve
pedestrian safety and walkability of the neighborhood
3. Improve
the marketability of the Snyder business district, including creating
or reinforcing a sense of place and the "imageability" of Snyder
4. Provide
the business community with a jumping of point" and direction for
further action toward moving forward with the vision
