Youth and Recreation /  Department Overview

  • The Amherst Youth & Recreation Department offers programs for residents of all ages. Program registration requires a resident ID card which is good from January 1 through December 31.
  • Program activities are held at various Recreation and Community Center locations throughout the town.
  • Year round indoor ice skating is available through the Northtown Center at Amherst. The facility offers Public Skate sessions for people of all ages. In addition to 3 NHL ice rinks and one Olympic sized rink, the complex grounds also include softball fields.
  • Amherst is home to over 20 outdoor park/playground locations which encompass both active and passive recreation.
  • Park amenities include playgrounds, shelters, bike paths, tennis courts, sports fields and picnic areas. Picnic shelters and select facilities are available for rental by large groups.
  • Two beautiful pools along with a splash park are available for resident use during the summer months.
  • From spring through late fall, area residents and non-residents alike can enjoy golfing at three (3) public golf courses. Each course offers its own unique challenge. A driving range is also available for those who want to brush up on their game or take a few swings.
