Highway Department /  Street Lighting

The Town of Amherst Highway Department oversees the street lighting in the Town. If there is a light out or not working properly we will report it to National Grid to schedule a repair. The Highway Department will accept all calls regarding street light issues, we ask that the caller to provide the light pole number if possible and the street address. This will assist National Grid locating the problem light fixture.

If there is a request for new light poles to be installed that request must be made in writing to the Highway Superintendent. Once the request is received there is a process that must be followed and ultimately the Amherst Town Board must approve any additional street lighting in the Town.
