Cook (Full Time)

Senior Services

The work involves performing skilled work in cooking and preparation of meats, vegetables, soups, and pastries. Supervision is exercised over several kitchen helpers. Work schedule: Monday-Friday. Amherst residency required.


Description of Duties

  • Prepares and cooks broths, soup; and stews;
  • Prepares and cooks meats and vegetables;
  • Uses herbs, spices and other enhancers to flavor foods being prepared;
  • Makes salads, sandwiches, and a variety of other foods;
  • May oversee an assistant preparing ingredients;
  • Actively participates and may oversee the cleaning of tools and equipment used in food preparation;
  • May serve prepared food from the steam table, plan menus or purchase food.

Qualifications

A.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in the preparation of food in large quantities; or:

B.) Completion of a standard grade school and five (5) years of food service experience, one (1) year of which included experience in the preparation of food in large quantities; or:

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

NOTE:  Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Rate of Pay

Salary Range $42,155 - $57,227 (Grade 7)
