Boulevard Central District Urban Renewal Area

On June 27, 2022, the Town Board approved a resolution that designates the “Boulevard Central District Urban Renewal Area” (as shown in the map link below), as an area appropriate for urban renewal as defined in § 502(3) of the General Municipal Law. This BCD Urban Renewal Area is a portion of the Boulevard Central District which encompasses the Boulevard Mall and some surrounding parcels. The Town Board was also designated as the Amherst Urban Renewal Agency (AURA) to carry out all future urban renewal functions/actions.

AURA was directed to prepare a Boulevard Central District Urban Renewal Plan, as that term is defined in §502(7) of the General Municipal Law, for the redevelopment of a portion of the BCD Urban Renewal Area which shall conform to the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and the Boulevard Central District Action Plan completed in 2021. A Draft Urban Renewal Plan was presented at a public hearing at the September 22, 2022 Planning Board Meeting. The Planning Board determined that the Urban Renewal Plan complies with §502(7) of the General Municipal Law and recommended approval to the Town Board, who is acting as Lead Agency under the State Environmental Quality Act (SEQR). The Town Board held a subsequent public hearing at its October 24, 2022 meeting where the it adopted a Negative Declaration under SEQR and approved the Boulevard Central District Urban Renewal Plan.
