Annual Spring Brush Pickup

Amherst’s annual spring brush pickup will begin the week of May 21st. Residents should have materials out at the street (not in the street) on the day of their scheduled Refuse day. However, depending on the volume of what is put out we may or may not get to it on the scheduled Refuse day. We can reassure you that it will get picked up. It may take approximately two to three weeks for us to complete the whole Town. Please have brush, logs and stumps out for pickup by May 21st if possible. The Town will collect large unmanageable piles of logs, brush, and tree stumps only. All material must be placed out the start of that week. This is the only time of year we will pick up piles that are not bundled and tied. No mixed piles containing lumber, concrete, railroad ties or non-organic materials will be collected. NOTE: The Compost facility will not take anything over 8 feet in length, so we will not pick up anything longer than 8 feet. Leaves, small trimmings and other yard waste should be put in containers, paper yard waste bags or bundled for collection by Modern Corporation on a weekly basis. The Highway Department will not pick up these materials during this spring brush pickup.

Town of Amherst 2018 Road Paving Program

Amherst Highway Superintendent Patrick Lucey has announced that the Amherst Highway Department will spend 2.8 million dollars this year to pave 52 Town roads that comprise approximately 16 total miles. That money will come from Amherst’s Capital Improvement Project Bond money as well as funds from New York State that provides money through the CHIPS roads programs. Most of the work will be done by the Town of Amherst Highway Department crews. Amherst is responsible for over 1,000 Town roads that cover 327 miles. If the price of asphalt is stable or decreases more roads may be added. Additionally, Town of Amherst Highway crews will continue to improve road storm drainage throughout the Town, replacing undersized and deteriorating pipes. Road work schedules and updates will be posted on the Town’s website at www.amherst.ny.us and the Highway’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Residents and or businesses residing on the roads being paved will be notified in advance of the road milling and paving process by letter and posting notices will also be put out on the Town trees in the right of way for no parking during that time also. Residents can also call the Highway Department at 631-7117 during regular working hours if they have any questions.
